Rensler Lyman Pomeroy
MilitaryAssigned to 560BS, 388BG, 8AF USAAF.
Rensler flew on 25 combat bombing operations as a navigator of a Flying Fortress of the 8th AAF. Returning from a flight to Ryuham (sic) Norway, Ren navigated his plane to cut off distance when the gas was running low. He repeated this performance when his squadron had bombed an airfield near Bordeaux, France. After this latter mission, Ren received a verbal commendation for gallantry in caring for his dying bombardier who had been struck by flak. Ren's buddy, bombardier Second Lt. Michael J. Chaklos, died in Ren's arms and this was a very great loss to Ren and the rest of the crew. Ren regularly flew on the "Tiger Girl."
Awards: DFC (OLC), AM (3OLC), EAME (2BS), WWII Victory.
