Genech, France | 29 January 1944 | We were attacked by a group of fighters some head on and some from tail. We were outnumbered and their firepower ripped the ship to shreds. (Sgt. Deverse) Was last seen lying in waist of ship. Both Anderson and Galloway report that Deverse died as a result of loss of blood caused by losing his right arm and shoulder in the attack. They indicated that they tried to administer first aid but that it was futile. Galloway and Anderson bailed out and the plane crashed near Genech France.
