B-17G #42-39797 'Nancy M' salvaged probably due to battle damage on 13 Feb 1944. RTD. Shot down by fighters and crashed W of Eusweiler/Elsdorf after the crew baled out on a mission to the ball bearing works at Erkner-Berlin on 6 Mar 1944 in B-17G #42-31448 'Half Breed'. Prisoner of War (POW). Berlin mission was my 13th. Got hit by fighters. Couldn't keep up with the formation. Plane caught on fire; had to abandon. Parachuted into a tree, wounded by bullet in right foot and left ankle. Taken prisoner, liberated in May, 1945.
