Staff Sergeant Tilley was an airplane armourer with 323rd Squadron 91st Bomber Group and served for three years at Bassingbourn. After the war he co-owned and operated a general store, managed a large parking lot and was always a keen gardener. He died following a stroke December 9th 2001 and was survived by his wife of 55 years, a son and a daughter.
