Paul was lost along with the rest of his fellow crew in a B-24H serial number 42-51117 which crashed in the United Kingdom on the 8th June 1944. They flew in the 486th Bomb Group, 883rd Squadron based at Sudbury (Station 174). The plane had aborted the mission due to mechanical issues and crashed in bad weather attempting an emergency landing at Gosfield (Station 154).
