12-Oct-44 Plane was 'Inside Curve' 42-39973. Went down spinning and twisting. Then in a nose dive blew up with all of my crew of nine, killing all but the Navigator and waist gunner. Killed in Action (KIA)



Awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. Killed when the plane he was serving on as a tail gunner, the B-17 "Inside Curve," crashed shortly after take off from its base in England on a bombing mission to Bremen, Germany. It was the first time that particular crew had flown that particular plane; it was the 113th mission for the plane itself. MACR 15888.
