Marvin Wunschel entered military service in January 1943, trained as a gunner and joined the 493rd Bomb Group in February 1944. Originally assigned to the George Durgin crew he was a member of the original air echelon and arrived at Debach in May 1944, flying his first combat mission on 11 June 1944. Marvin completed his 29th combat mission on 25th October 1944, and returned home to the US arriving on 26th November 1944. He was discharged in October 1945 when he returned to farming.
