Marion Elmo Jackson
MilitaryJoined RAFVR, assigned to 133S, Damaged Bf109 23-5-41, transferred to 336FS, 4FG, 8AF USAAF. Credited 1.5 Vicories. On the mission to Morlaix 26-Sep-42, Capt Jackson scored the 4th Fighter Group's first kill in Spitfire Mk IX BS279. He shot down a Fw190 in the air over Brest Peninsula, France and then was shot down himself. Wounded in the subsequent crash landing, he spent 8 weeks in hospital before sent to Stalag Luft III as a Prisoner of War (POW). He was able to escape for about ten days by jumping from the roof of his cell house into a load of evergreen branches being hauled away from the camp.
