I own this photograph, 2 copies.

Object Number - UPL 57600 - Louis H Windsor

Louis Windsor was a great man who made the lives of those he was a part of better. My cousins and I all fondly remember him as a grandfather and while I can not speak for them, he was my personal hero. Never speaking much to us (his grandchildren) about his time in the war, he lost a toe due to frostbite, and was shaken from losing his close friend and fellow crewman, Peter Scott, who died of wounds sustained in a mission to Hamburg. Additionally, his paternal cousin and childhood best friend, Donald would also join up, and lose his life in the war. Along with other relatives, Louis’s brother Jimmy also served in the Navy Band. 1st Lt. Louis Windsor’s mission career went from a mission to Heilbronn on the 10th of September, 1944 to a strike of an Airfield south of Nürnberg on the 4th of April, 1945, within this span of time he would serve in 35 missions aboard a B-24 Liberator as navigator.

330th Bombardment Squadron list for mission on the 5th of November, 1944 lists plane as #42-109867/A.

Pilot Walter F. Hughes wrote a book called, ‘A Bomber Pilot in WWII’ about their crew, and Louis Windsor’s name is listed in the back of ‘Ted’s Travelling Circus’ by Carroll (Cal) Stewart.

Listed missions of Louis Windsor (and of Walter Hughes) according to flight logs of Louis Windsor & Hughes' book

Spelling errors of the German names are listed after the target name
