Loton was from Wayne, Maine, and arrived at the 4th Fighter Group on 20 October 1943. He was assigned to the 335th Squadron. Little was heard from him until April 1944, when he got one Luftwaffe plane on each of two missions, and then destroying four on one aerodrome strafing raid. In July he became "A" Flight Commanding Officer, and shortly thereafter he was transferred out of the group.

He had six enemy aircraft to his credit, and was awarded the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters.
