Lloyd Lester Lund
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 26 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He enlisted in November 1942 and accepted into the Aviation Cadet program. After pilot training he and his crew flew in November 1944 to the ETO from Bangor Maine as a replacement crew and assigned to the 305th BG at Chelveston. Lloyd flew on 22 combat missions on one of which flak knocked out one engine, they lost two others and made a forced landing in Belgium on an air strip which had just been taken by Allied ground forces. 'the first German jet fighter we saw collided with our deputy lead plane and both planes just disintegrated'. He - after discharge- went back to work on the family farm.
