He enlisted after Pearl Harbour and trained as a gunner and mechanic before being shipped to England in July 1944. Spike Jones and his City Slickers were also on board and entertained the 15,000 troops on the ten day 'zig-zag' trip across the Atlantic. He flew on 34 combat missions with the 100th BG at Thorpe Abbots, his last being on March 4 1945.
