On March 24, 1945, he was serving as Tail Gunner aboard B-17 tail #43-38685 when it was downed over Dreirwalde, Germany. He was believed to have been killed on the ground with other members of his crew by German civilians.
He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Evansville.
