Military ROLL OF HONOUROn T/O for an operational mission on 6 Feb 1944, B-17G #42-39955 lost an engine and touched down hard upon landing causing the landing gear to collapse. RTD. Damaged by flak over the target of Klein Machnow, Berlin and attacked by fighters on the return on 6 Mar 1944, B-17G #42-31337 'Hell's Cargo' crashed WSW of Uelzen, GR. Killed in Action (KIA). He hit his head on a rock and died in the infirmary the same day. The Germans buried him in a field-grave near the brick works along the roat to Gebharshagen
