John Innes Jenkins

John I Jenkins was born in Waterloo, Iowa on 16 March 1925. He enlisted in 1943 and flew as a B17 navigator for 35 combat missions into Nazi occupied Europe from August through December 1944. His worst mission was the bombing of the Leuna oil refinery near Merseburg, Germany on 21 Nov 1944. 2LT Stonewall Raley (inset) was KIA on the Leuna mission.
After the war, John returned to college. He was recalled to active duty for Korea and ultimately retired as a Lieutenant Colonel during the Vietnam conflict.
