Indianapolis, IN, USA | 16 July 2011 | Jesse E. Castanias 87, passed away July 16, 2011. Born January 14, 1924 in Haverhill, Massachusetts to Eustace D. Castanias and Cleopatra (Zilson) Castanias, he was a graduate of Haverhill High School and held a B.A. from Bates (Me.) College, where he also played as a fullback and defensive back on the Bates football team for four years. Prior to enrolling at Bates, he served as a 1st pilot of a B-17 "Flying Fortress" with the 8th Air Force, where he flew 35 combat missions over Germany and was awarded six air medals and three battle stars.
