James C Green Jr
MilitaryShot down 6 March 1943 in B-17F 42-5130 'Sweet Pea', 306BG/367BS while serving as Right Waist Gunner. The aircraft was on mission to bomb the U-Boat pens at Lorient, France. Flak caused damage to the aircraft and he baled out and was captured as a Prisoner of War (POW).
Green was awarded the Legion of Merit for his part in devising a nose mount for the .50 calibre machine gun. He died in Maryville TN following a heart attack on 29th April 1993.
He helped build a new type machine gun mount. He was an ex-armament chief. He volunteered for combat duty after collaborating with Sergeant. Ben F. Marcilonis on the gun mount, which was then installed on the combat duty B-17 Green was assigned to.
