James B Murray

Military ROLL OF HONOUR

Shot down 16 August 1943 in B-17 #425797. Killed in Action (KIA). James joined the 384th on Sunday 7/25/43. His first mission was to Gilsenkirchen, Germany on August 12, 43. His second mission was to Poix & Amiens, France on Aug 15, 43. His third and last mission was on Aug 16, 43. The target was Lebourget, France. All aboard his plane bailed out, some crew evaded, some were taken prisoners of war. MACR's indicte that his parachute may not have opened, that he may have been a floating target for the fighters, and that his remains may have been recovered and hidden by the French. Originally listed as Missing in Action (MIA), a Finding of Death was issued a year later in August, 1944. In Nov. 45 it was officially determined that he was Killed in Action on Aug 16,'43. He was originally interred in the U S Military Cemetery, Solers, France until returned to the U S in 1948.
