Shot down by fighters on the return from a mission to the JU88 plant at Bernburg, GR and crashed near Siegen, GR on 22 Feb 1944 in B-17G #42-39945. Killed in Action (KIA).



Earlier, November 30, 1943, plane was damaged on bomb run and Toombs bailed B-17 #42-39850, back to base.



27 December 1943 midair collision in B-17 #42-30221 during formation training flight. All returned.
