Staff-Sergeant Penrod congratulates Major Robert "Bob" Johnson of the 56th Fighter Group after a mission in Johnson's P-47 Thunderbolt nicknamed "Penrod & Sam". Colonel Hubert Zemke (56th Fighter Group) has handwritten on the reverse: 'Major "Bob" Johnson being congratulated for another victory by his crew chief S/Sgt Penrod. Bob labeled hi P-47 "Penros & Sam" Sam being his middle initial. April 1944.'
