2nd Lt. Kimball was awarded the Air Medal with 12 oak leaf clusters. He was the bombardier on the Sharon Rozeanne II/Taconite Express after receiving his comission. He had initially been slated to be a pilot but was washed out of pilot training due to "hot rodding" his trainer aircraft and clipping a tree with the wing.

 

2nd Lt. Kimball hailed from Maine and kept flying after his discharge from the AAF at the end of the war.
