11-Mar-44 Shot down by AA fire in B-17G #42-97484, 447BG/710BS while serving as Pilot. Aircraft crashed in the North Sea off Haamstede, Holland on a mission to Munster, Germany on 11 Mar 1944. Most aircrew landed on sandbar at low tide, but their pleas for help to German workers and soldiers as tide came in were ignored and they all drowned. After war searches for those responsible failed. Killed in Action - MACR 3188.

Killed in Action (KIA)

4328 Haamstede, Netherlands 11 March 1944 He baled out of the aircraft and landed on a sandbar with most of the rest of the crew. These pleaded with nearby civilians and German soldiers to rescue them as the tide was coming in. All ended up being drowned. His remains have never been recovered.
