MilitaryFlew 12 missions. Shot down on 16 February 1943 on 13th to St. Nazaire in B-17F 42-5058 'Hun Hunter' while serving as Pilot. Aircraft wa attacked by German fighters and crashed near Morlac, France. He managed to baled out and was captured as Prisoner of War (POW). Held at Stalag Luft III. Helped plan and participated in original 'Great Escape' but did not escape. Liberated by Third Army 29 April 1945.
