Harvey Dalton Johnson
MilitaryCrashed in a Spitfire on a playing field at Walthamstow during an attempted crash landing. The incident was mentioned in the House of Commons a few days later. Lt Johnson was the only individual American airman to be so honored. He had recently transferred from the RCAF and had been in the eighth only 1 month. Not sure what fighter group he was in. (unmarried, was the son of Mr. & Mrs. R. B. Johson, Philadelphia PA, Former member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, he transferred to the U. S. service on October 13, 1942)
