Born 4 November 1918 in Alliance, Ohio to Harold Maurice Hegyessy and Mary Kirkland Hegyessy. After death of mother, moved to Oak City to live with grandmother. Graduated Delta High School in 1937, Received BS in history from U of U in 1942, and MA from BYU in 1977. Married Phylis Marcella Schaffer, 3 March 1945 in Alliance, Ohio. Later solemnized in Idaho Falls Temple, 1949. A career officer in US Air Force, serving in World War II, Korean war, and Cold war, retiring in 1968 as a Lt Col. Received seven Air medals, Purple heart, Meritorious Service, European theatre, Japan occupation, Pres. Unit citation, and Distinguished Flying Cross. During 'retirement' years, worked as a professional genealogist and author, served as volunteer consultant in German, Swiss and US research at LDS family history library in Slat Lake City, 1974-1994. Active in LDS church, serving in branch presidencies, bishoprics, as President of US serviceman's district - Germany, on High Councils, as stake historical clerk, faithful High Priest and home teacher. Survived by wife Phyllis, Orem; one son; four daughters; nineteen grand-children; 15 great grand-children. Preceded in death by two sisters. Funeral services Wednesday, June 11, 2003, 11 a.m., Grove Creek Stake center, 1176 N 730 E, Pleasant Grove, with viewing 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. Burial in the Oak City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. under the direction of the Nickle Mortuary, Delta.
