July 4, 1944 on mission to Tours, FR in B-17#42-107114 when engine trouble led to an out of control fire over the Channel. Crew returned to England releasing bombs in a field in Sussex. Crew bailed out. 10 RTD Served on Simeral crew of 600th BS on this mission.
