He was an original crew member of the group. Shot down 14 October 1943 in B-17 #42-30707 'Piccadilly Commando' on Schweinfurt mission. Prisoner of War (POW) at Stalag Luft 3, Sagan-Silesia Bavaria (Moved to Nuremberg-Langwasser) 49-11. He was shot down on his 24th mission. Was a Prisoner of War (POW) for 20 months. He was captured with his A-2 jacket on and it made the German newspapers and even the NY Times.



Earlier, on 10 August 1943 crash landed in 'Liberty Belle' B-17 #42-5889 on return from mission to Poland. 10 RTD;
