Gerard J Perry

Military

Prisoner of War. Crashed near Osterburg on 3 March 1945 in B-24 'Gung Ho' 42-50463.

On a mission to drop bombs his plane was intercepted by a German fighter plane and the plane bounced in elevation and he went to the bomb bay of the plane to drop all of the bombs but, having released the bombs, he passed out from the lack of oxygen. He woke up floating down to the ground and didn't know who put the parachute on him. He broke one leg on landing and was captured by Germans.

He was at a German prison camp until General Patton's 3rd Army liberated it in 1945.
