George Wellington Hildum Jr
MilitaryOn May 1 and 2, 1945 flew the first relief missions in Operation Chowhound dropping food and other supplies in Holland.
Letter of commendation from General Archie Old for this mission for Lt. Hildum's '... superior flying skill and ability as a combat flying pilot... under extreme flying difficulties caused by adverse weather conditions... Lt. Hildum demonstrated outstanding skill and and leadership and I can not praise him too highly for the splendid manner in which he performed his assignment.'
Flew the group's last combat bombing mission on Inglostadt, Germany on April 21, 1945.
