George enlisted in January 1944. After training his crew ferried a new B-17 to England via Iceland where they spent a month waiting for repairs. He flew on 23 Missions, on 'Deadman's Hand' B17.- Pilot was Robert Glazener- from Rattlesden. After VE Day he helped clean up the base then returned to the USA in August. In civilian life he worked for City of Winterset Municipal Utilities for 37 years, the final 12 as Superintendent.
