George Alfred Parrish

Military

Member of the original crew assigned to the christening of the 1st all silver non-painted B-17 delivered to the 91st BG(H) by General Eisenhower April 1944. 'The General Ike' flew 31 missions, credited with 35. First mission 26-Nov-43 to Bremen, 1st Berlin Mission 06-Mar-44. Our original planes 'Buckeye Boomerang' and 'Buckeye II' were both lost in combat.



George arrived at Bassingbourn in October of 1943. He flew half his missions as a waist gunner, and replaced their wounded flight engineer to finish his 32 missions. Upon return to the states, he spent 3 months in a convalescent hospital for a "severe Flak Happy condition, as was common in those days.” He later trained on B-29's. (Written by son, Robert)
