Galen was a clerk in a J. C. Penny store when he was inducted in June 1942. He was accepted into the Aviation Cadet program, completing training, crewed up and joined the Group at Chelveston in June 1944. He was to fly 36 missions in 4 months in 'Lucky Lady', his first dropping propaganda leaflets over Hamburg. 3 missions in September '44 were in support operation 'Market Garden'. After France was freed he was assigned to fly war correspondents to Paris - Frank Capra the famous war photographer among them. After his discharge he flew with the Air National Guard for 30 years and served as Boone City Clerk until his retirement in 1982 when he was appointed Secretary to the Airport Commission.
