Frederick Phillip Huebner

Military

On mission to Frankfurt on 29 Jan 1944, B-17G 42-31436 collided with another B-17 (41-31151 of 96th BG/337th BS) and crashed near Monthermé, France. Managed to evade for a time, being helped by the Underground. Like his crewmates Lee McDonald and Louis Koren, Fred Huebner was helped by local Resistance leader Georges POIRIER in Charleville-Mézières, France. He and the others were captured later, probably in early March 1944, in a wave of arrests. Prisoner of War (POW).
