He was the 73rd Officer to complete tour in December 1943. Completed 25 missions from 13 March to December 1943. His B-17 was named 'Lady Baltimore'. He also flew 'Impatient Virgin' on the Kiel mission. According to an article printed about Onnen: 'He has amassed 1,500 Army air hours and has been active in three theaters of operations. His crew members are credited with 18 enemy planes. Promoted to the rank of 1st Lt. in September 1942, then became a Captain a year later.' Ferdinand Onnen was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) + 1 oak leaf cluster and the Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters.
