May 1944, Snyder was transferred to theDetachment of Patients, 97th General Hospital, pending returning home. He walked away from his cracked up "Lighting" when it caught fire while only a few feet in the air. He suffered jaw and back injur

He feathered the prop and called the tower for an emergency landing. His left engine then cut out. He tried to stretch the glide to base but crashed one mile north of the field. |
