Springfield, Georgia | 5 October 2014 | Edwin Reiser Exley SPRINGFIELD - Edwin Reiser Exley, 90, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at his home after a long illness. Edwin was a lifelong resident of Effingham County and was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield , where he served many years as the custodian. He also served on the church council and was head of the Holy Trinity's Lutheran Men's Breakfast until his health prevented him from participating. He proudly served his country during World War II, where he flew 50 combat missions in the European Theatre of Operations. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Air Corp's Air Medal for his service abroad. He was a 60 year and charter member of Springfield Post 209 of the American Legion. He was retired from International Paper after more than 30 years and the Effingham County Board of Education. Edwin loved his family, his church, the New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves. |
