" The third B-24 shot down by German fighter planes of IV./JG 3 during the attack on the Bingen marshalling yard on 2 December 1944 was that of pilot Edward J. Cieply of 392 BG (577 BS). It exploded in mid-air after the fighter fire, the wreckage fell in a radius of 3 km near Stipshausen (5 km southwest of Rhaunen im Hunsrück). All 9 crewmembers perished".
