While assigned temporarily to fly out of North Africa, on February 25, 1943, B24 41-23740 'Red Ass' was forced to land in Spanish Morocco. The crew was interned. Chapter 10 of Ted's Travelling Circus chronicles their adventures in this incident. Weir was freed June 2, 1943.
