Assigned to the Air Corps he volunteered to become an air gunner and after training joined the 100 BG at Thorpe Abbotts just after D-Day. He was to fly on 33 combat missions on 'Gal Sal' and Mason-Dixon'. After the war he returned to Keota IA to run a farmers' elevator service.
