Don was drafted in November 1943, trained as a gunner and on 7 December 1944 with his crew picked up a new B-17 and flew across the Atlantic to join the Group at Chelveston. His very first mission was in support of the Battle of the Bulge on Christmas Eve; he was to fly a total of 32. Following VE Day the group moved to the European mainland on photographic missions. He afterwards ran his own office supply business.
