David Warren Bachman

Military

We found two draft registration cards for David; one is undated and he apparently filled out the form incorrectly as it had 'Bachman' as his first name, 'David' as his middle name and 'Warren' as his last name. The second registration card was prepared on 05 November 1946 and notated: "Card made up Nov.5th.1946.(Had no card previously)"; it also continued the out of order sequence of the names. He was 5' 9 1/2" tall; weighed 138 pounds; had black hair, brown eyes and a 'light' complexion.

The service number appearing on the orders we have is not listed in the NARA data base, and a search by name also produced no results. We did, however, find a copy of his AGO Form 53-55 – Enlisted Record and Report of Separation – Honorable Discharge, dated 10 October 1945, which confirmed the service number on the orders.

The AGO Form 53-55 – Enlisted Record and Report of Separation – Honorable Discharge, contains a wealth of information regarding David and his service.

He entered the service on 04 May 1942 from Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and went overseas on 31 January 1944. He returned to the United States on 09 July 1945 and was separated from active duty on 10 October 1945.

He was a Sergeant; he attended both Radar Operations and Radar School; he qualified as a 'Sharpshooter' with the M-1 carbine; he was entitled to wear the Distinguished Unit Citation, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with 5 battle stars, the Good Conduct Medal and was issued the Honorable Discharge lapel pin.

We have him listed on the 437th TCG Special Orders #195, dated 27 December 1943. These were the orders generated at Pope Field (Fort Bragg, NC) for the first phase of movement by air and by rail of the 437th personnel to their eventual overseas deployment.
