Curtis Willett Campbell
MilitaryEntered the Air Army Corps in Oct 1942 and served until Sept 1945.
Was a prisoner of war in Krems, Ausria for 14 months.
B-17F #42-3506 'Sir Baboon McGoon' was forced to ditch in the North Sea off Ijmuiden after fighter attacks disabled one engine on a mission to Brunswick, GR on 29 Mar 1944. No loss of life. Entire crew in 2 life rafts during a snow storm. Picked up by German Navy. Prisoner of War (POW).
After the war, Campbell returned to the Prairie Green Township area and began a career in farming and sold life insurance for 18 years.
Member of PGT and served as both treasurer and on the wellington school unit 7 board.
Volunteered for the National service for veterens and served as an officer, life member of Hoopesten American Legion post and Hoopesten VFW post.
