Joplin, Jasper County, MO | 14 July 2011 | Clyde "Roy" Provance, age 85, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Freeman Hospital following an illness. Roy was born on April 13, 1926, in Joplin, the son of Archie and Clara (Mitts) Provance. Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps., 490th Bomber Group serving in England during World War II. Following his service, he worked for Shade Tree Service Company as a supervisor before retiring in 1991. He attended Villa Heights Christian Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 126 in Aurora, Mo. Roy enjoyed golfing, fishing, quail hunting and especially the St. Louis Cardinals. His favorite pastime in later years was spending time at his lake cabin on Bull Shoals Lake. He married Josephine Bertschy on Dec. 6, 1991, in Joplin. She survives. Additional survivors include two daughters, two brothers, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Catherine in 1988; his parents; and by one brother, Bill Maynard. |
