1 October 1943 shot down by fighters and flak in B-24D 41-23811 'Fascinatin' Witch'while on detachment to the 9th AF. Crew bailed out over Austria with 3 Killed in Action (KIA) and 7 Prisoner of War (POW)s. Sasek was imprisoned at Stalag 17B. Earlier, 14 May 1943 in B-24 #41-24014 'Scrappy. ' fighters attacked causing top turret to explode. Crew applied first aid, pushed injured TTG Wygonik out near target area so he could receive medical treatment as he would not have survived to trip to England. Shot up plane got to England with crew safely bailing out. The plane was shot down by Spitfires as it was not able to land safely
