Walnut Creek, CA, USA | 11 June 2000 | Chadwick Reade, who coached Washington High football in San Francisco and was a West Coast college football official, died Sunday in Walnut Creek. He was 82. The slightly built Mr. Reade was a football standout at Lowell High. He received a scholarship to Stanford, but an injury ended his playing career. He was a graduate of S.F. State. Mr. Reade coached Washington from 1948 to 1962, before becoming a department head at the school. Among the players he coached there was Jimmy Sochor, a diminutive back who excelled for the Philadelphia Eagles during the early '50s. Sochor was a small-college All-American at S.F. State, then a highly successful football coach at UC-Davis. Mr. Reade's love for football continued after his retirement from coaching. He officiated college games, including the Rose Bowl and the annual East-West Shrine Game. |
