He registered for the WW II draft on 27 June 1942; he was listed as living in Hamilton and was employed by the Moslers Safe Co. in Hamilton. He was 5' 10" tall and weighed 135 pounds. He had brown hair, blue eyes and a 'light' complexion.

He entered the service on 21 November 1942 from Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky. He enlisted as a private in the Air Corps; he had four years of high school education, was single, without dependents and his civilian occupation was listed as: "Skilled pattern and model makers, except paper".

We have Corporal Apgar listed on the 437th TCG Special Orders #195, dated 27 December 1943. These were the orders generated at Pope Field (Fort Bragg, NC) for the first phase of movement by air and by rail of the 437th personnel to their eventual overseas deployment.
