Bennett Miller Fischer
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
Bennett's father had been a pilot in WW1 and after being drafted he chose an air crew slot. In December 1944 he joined the Group at Bassingbourn and flew on 20 combat missions. He had a narrow escape one day when flak destroyed the area where the bombardier usually sat - but that day the seat was missing and he was seated lower in the nose. Post war he returned to university, obtained a law degree and established a law practice in Vinton IA.
Awards: AM (3OLC), EAME (2BS), WWII Victory.
