Northern Italy | 21 January 1945 | On January 21, 1945 he was on the crew of the North American B-25J Mitchell 43-27657 in a group of twelve aircraft to bomb the San Michele rail diversion bridge in Italy. Their mission was a complete success, however on the return trip the B-25 #43-4064 was blown into them by a sudden gust of wing. Aubrey B Porter was thrown out of the plane by the force of the collision. He was the only fatality from his crew. However, the other B-25 spun down into a fiery crash, killing all onboard. |
