Arthur Cooper
MilitaryOn July 11, 1944 our mission was Munich, Germany. We had engine trouble all the way to the target and over the target we had a couple of hits by flak, and our gas was running low. There was not enough to get back to our base. So we went into Switzerland with the protection of two P-51s and they departed. We made it to Adelboden, Switzerland. About 6 weeks later, myself and 3 others made our escape. Near the French border we got separated and I was alone. Over the French border I was picked up by the F. F. I. They hid me out as there were Germans all over the streets. Finally I made contact with the 3rd Army. They took me all the way to St. Merice on the Med. Sea. There I caught a plane to Naples, Italy and finally got back to England.
