Peterson was shipped to New York in late 1944, His wife and mother received a letter from him on 8 December 1944 and then it was quite some time before they had any word from him. By late January of 1945 the family knew Peterson had been shipped overseas but still didn't know where he was stationed.



Peterson received the Air Medal in April 1945, he sent the medal home to his wife and she forwarded the info to his parents. He survived the war.



He only had one son who served in Vietnam, and passed away before he did in the 1970s. Peterson's wife also passed away early on because of a bad heart.
